WWII.... Korea... Vietnam... Bosnia... Gulf War... Afghanistan... Iraq ... and all eras
We speak in high schools in the NYC and Hudson Valley region. We discuss our experiences in the military and our reasons for being against the war in Iraq. We caution students about the techniques used by military recruiters and the the realities of some of the proposed benefits of joining the service at this time. Finally we discuss the racism of war, the destruction of communities and cultures that are foreign to our society.
We work in teams of two for 40 minute classes and can provide a panel for larger groupings. We prefer to talk with a series of classes (2nd, 3rd & 5th periods for example). Teachers usually double-up classes for our visits. We adjust our discussions to the teacher's needs... Global History, U.S. History or English teachers (using Tim O'Brien's book, " The Things Thet Carried").
